Classic Bavarian Brews
Want to know the secret to our one-of-a-kind flavor?
Our bier is brewed on-site every day using original recipes handed down by the Duke of Bavaria over 400 years ago.
Today, our Brew Master oversees the brewing of our four year-round bier varieties, plus all of our seasonal specialties such as our Oktoberfest, Maibock, Pilsner and Dunkel Weizen.
Our biers are crafted strictly according to the German Purity Law “Reinheitsgebot” using only hops, malt and water.
So, enjoy these fine biers in the Munich tradition, that’s easy on the palate, yet smooth and and refreshing.
Brewed under license and supervision of Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München.
Buy a liter of any bier and keep the stein for only $12 additional!
Here at Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh, in addition to our monthly seasonal and Brewer’s Choice selections, you’ll always find our three flagship biers on tap… our Lager, Hefe Weizen, and Dunkel. The biers that were born in Germany, but are now brewed right here, on site.
A traditional, full-flavored, German Lager with a crisp, clean finish. This is the bier that made Hofbräuhaus famous more than 400 years ago in Munich, and it’s brewed exactly the same way today.
A specialty born in Munich – loved by the world. A fairly sweet old-style Wheat bier brewed to create a wonderful combination of banana and clove flavor and aroma.
For centuries Munich’s favorite bier. Dunkel translates to “Dark” lager. It is medium bodied, easy to drink, with simple roasted malt flavor and slight caramel undertones.
Monthly Seasonal Bier
Each month, we feature a new seasonal bier. Our brewers use the traditional recipes from the original Hofbräuhaus, some dating back over 400 years. These biers are balanced and so easy to drink, you’ll wish we served them all year long. But, they’re only here for a short time, so enjoy!
January: “SCHWARZ BIER” (Translation: Black Bier)
5.5% ABV | 33 IBU
Dark and bold. An opaque, black-colored lager with lots of dark and roasted malt character. Rich blends of caramel and chocolate malts create a malt-forward, chocolaty-sweet flavor.
February: “DOPPEL BOCK” (Translation: Double Bock)
8.0% ABV | 23 IBU
Malty, sweet and strong are the dominant characteristics of this powerful lager. A rich, complex and full-bodied Double Bock bier with dominant flavors of sweet caramel, toffee, and toasted barley. Look for hints of dark fruits and licorice produced by this bier’s extended maturation period.
March: “MÄRZEN” (Translation: March)
5.8% ABV | 22 IBU
An amber-colored lager with a medium body and a smooth, malty character. There are characteristics of both biscuit and caramel as well. It has a delicate sweetness and a moderate hop finish. The result is one very balanced bier that everyone can enjoy.
April: “HOPFEN SPEZIAL” (Translation: Hoppy Special)
5.8% ABV | 40 IBU
An amber pale lager is unfiltered and noticeably more hoppy than most of our biers in both flavor and aroma. Hints of citrus are balanced by a rich malty backbone. We enjoy trying new age hops from Germany in this Cold IPA relative. Ask us what hops we selected for this year’s brews!
May: “MAIBOCK” (Translation: May Bock)
7.2% ABV | 24 IBU
Imported from Munich, Germany, this is the oldest and first original bock bier of Munich, originating in 1614. A rich, flavorful bock bier to celebrate the arrival of Spring and the opening of biergartens! It is noticeably malty and sweet, with a warming alcohol note.
June: “HOPFEN WEIZEN” (Translation: Hoppy Wheat)
5.4% ABV | 50 IBU
This hopped-up version of our flagship hefeweizen has the base wheat profile but with noticeably more citrus and orange zest flavors and aromas from the specialty hops. It’s juicy…hop-forward…and sure to delight any hop lover!
July: “PILS” (Translation: Pilsner)
5.4% ABV | 36 IBU
Bohemian-style pilsner is golden in color with a kicked-up presence of both malt and hops. The malt profile is slightly sweet and toasted, with a biscuit-like, bready character. Balanced with crisp and clean noble hops. Refreshing and satisfying…perfect for Summer!
August: “SOMMER WEIZEN” (Translation: Summer Wheat)
5.4% ABV | 17 IBU
This hefeweizen is slightly more amber in color than our traditional hefeweizen. It is less sweet and more balanced, with a bready mouthfeel. The same mild notes of banana and clove in the aroma, but with added citrus notes.
September: “OKTOBERFEST” (Translation: Octoberfest)
6.3% ABV | 35 IBU
Imported from Munich, Germany, this bier is brewed in honor of the largest bier festival in the world, Oktoberfest. Pale in color, a little more malty sweet on the front with a well-balanced note of hop spice on the finish. PROST!
October: “FESTBIER” (Translation: Festive Bier)
5.9% ABV | 21 IBU
Marzen-style lager is amber in color, malty sweet with a satisfying hop spice finish. This bier was created to celebrate the wedding of Prince Ludwig in this original form over 200 years ago.
November: “DUNKEL WEIZEN” (Translation: Dark Wheat)
5.4% ABV | 15 IBU
A dark and unfiltered wheat bier that has a dark roasted malt base with the fruitiness of our hefeweizen. A brew so well-balanced that both wheat-bier and dark-bier drinkers will love!
December: “WEIHNACHTSBIER” (Translation: Christmas Bier)
5.5% ABV | 28 IBU
Every year, we ring in the holiday season with our festive Christmas Lager. A flavorful, amber lager that drinks smooth with a malty base that finishes crisp and clean with note of “spiciness” – perfect for this festive time of year!
