Appetizers – A Secret To Success

Those in the know, read our blog for the best advice on how to enjoy life and where to find the best German food in the area. Though we always seem to circle to Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh and hanging out in the Bier hall, we believe ourselves spot on.

This month we lift the curtain on what we (me, the blogger) call the MVP of the menu—our appetizers.

When it’s hot and you need to eat, your meal expectations change. Often this change finds us looking for a light, easy-to-eat, and good options, but not in a stick-to-your-ribs kind of way, but in a refreshing way.

Our flavored brews only add to that refreshing sensation. Read on to learn how to get the best out of your time with us this Summer.

Hits the Spot

There’s a certain hope each year for Summer to be a time of ease, open schedules, and vacation. However, those of us with tight schedules are familiar with the free time killers of work, ubering kids places, and life.

Appetizers work for a quick meal or take out on your way to drop off kids at camp, as your contribution to a work event, or even as an excellent check-in meal for date night.

They can also introduce little ones to new foods and tastes.

Some of our current favorites are:

Fried Pickles
Perfectly sliced and lightly fried dill pickles with a serving of ranch dressing.

Bier Cheese Fries
Our scrumptious french fries are topped with Bier and cheddar cheese. The fries are taken to a different level with chives and smoked bacon.

Reuben Balls
Corned beef, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut lightly breaded and then fried golden. These balls of perfection are served with Thousand Island dressing.

The Reuben Balls and Fried Pickles are easy to bring to Summer events like reunions, showers, and graduation parties. We don’t know about you, but getting great takeout as a contribution is one of the best life hacks.

Take a Break

If you work in Pittsburgh, then the Biergarten is an excellent place for a working lunch. The scenery is fantastic, and you can get Vitamin D while you work. For a working lunch or dinner, we suggest:

The “Works” Sampler
Pretzels with Bier Cheese, Potato pancakes served with applesauce, Fried Pickles with Ranch Dressing, and Rueben Balls with Thousand Island dressing.

Giant Pretzel Combo
A giant pretzel served with Bier Cheese, “Obatzda” Cheese, and Sweet Bavarian Mustard.

This giant pretzel is for sharing and served at Oktoberfest and the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl (Munich, Germany)! Sharing this fun appetizer will initiate team bonding and possibly snag a great picture.

Add Some Flavor

Ladies’ or Guys’ nights have unlimited potential when they begin with one of our flavored Biers. Our flavored Biers aren’t something we’re mainly known for, but we promise they’ll knock your socks off.

They go great with any of our appetizers and are a great way to expand your palate. Flavored Biers are also refreshing and super fun to order.

Summer In the Midwest Means Appetizers

Midwest Summers are something else. We experience dangerous storms, sweltering temperatures, and finally, the Dog Days, which sometimes last into October.

In all those phases of Summer, appetizers are proven easy to share, fun to eat, and of course, perfect with any of our Biers.
